How to Apply for a Coffin Burial


Once the Certificate of Registration of Death (form 12) and burial order (issued with the death certificate) are obtained, or the approval of a coffin burial from the Coroner is obtained (Form 11), you can pay the burial fee and decide on when and where the burial will take place. You also have to choose the funeral date and make arrangements.

1. Tseung Kwan O Chinese Permanent Cemetery:  
Tseung Kwan O Chinese Permanent Cemetery is located in Yau Tong District, under the Board of Management of the Chinese Permanent Cemeteries. Grave space is classified as permanent: $281,500; by installment: $29,600; ten years: $21,600.
To purchase the space, take the Certificate of Registration of Death (Form 12), Burial Order (Form 10), and all the administrative fees (cash or cheque) to 34/F, Wu Chung House, 213 Queen’s Road East, Wan Chai, Hong Kong
For inquiries, call 2511 1116.
Transportation: You can reach the site by taking bus no. 14 (China Hong Kong City), 14B (Ngau Tau Kok), or 603 (Central) to Yau Tong and then take a taxi. You can also just take a taxi from Lam Tin MTR station.


2. Chai Wan Chinese Permanent Cemetery:  
Chai Wan Chinese Permanent Cemetery is located in Chai Wan District, under the Board of Management of the Chinese Permanent Cemeteries. Grave space is classified as permanent: $281,500; by installment: $29,600; ten years: $21,600.
To purchase the space, take the Certificate of Registration of Death (Form 12), Burial Order (Form 10), and all administrative fees (cash or cheque) to 34/F, Wu Chung House, 213 Queen’s Road East, Wan Chai, Hong Kong.
For inquiries, call 2511 1116 (limited grave space available).
Transportation: You can reach the site by taking a taxi from Chai Wan MTR Station. The site is within walking distance if you take bus no. 16 (to Stanley) or bus 18M.


3. Aberdeen Chinese Permanent Cemetery:  
Aberdeen Chinese Permanent Cemetery is located in Aberdeen District, under the Board of Management of the Chinese Permanent Cemeteries. Grave space is classified as: permanent: $281,500; by installment: $29,600; ten years: $21,600.
To purchase the space, take the Certificate of Registration of Death (Form 12), Burial Order (Form 10), and all the administrative fees (cash or cheque) to 34/F, Wu Chung House, 213 Queen’s Road East, Wan Chai, Hong Kong.
For inquiries, call 2511 1116 (limited grave space available).
Transportation: You can reach the site by taking bus no. 77 (from Sau Kei Wan), 76 (Causeway Bay), 43 (Admiralty), 70 (Central), or 970 (So Uk). The site is within walking distance of any bus line via Aberdeen.


4. Tsuen Wan Chinese Permanent Cemetery:  
Tsuen Wan Chinese Permanent Cemetery s located in Tsuen Wan district, under the Board of Management of the Chinese Permanent Cemeteries. Grave space is classified as permanent: $281,500; by installment: $29,600; ten years: $21,600.
To purchase the space, take the Certificate of Registration of Death (Form 12), Burial Order (Form 10), and all the administrative fees (cash or cheque) to 34/F, Wu Chung House, 213 Queen’s Road East, Wan Chai, Hong Kong.

5. Wo Hop Shek Cemetery:  
Wo Hop Shek Cemetery is located in Fanling District, under the management of the New Territories Cemeteries and Crematoria Office. Grave space is categorized as Chinese Service Hall, Christian Service Hall, and Regular Service Hall.
To purchase the space, take the Certificate of Registration of Death (Form 12), Burial Order (Form 10), and administrative fee of $3,190 to a funeral home. The deceased has to be a permanent resident of Hong Kong. Except the Regular Service Hall, proof of membership of affiliated church or native association required for all service halls.

Transportation: You can reach the site by bus no. 77 (from Sau Kei Wan), 76 (Causeway Bay), 43 (Admiralty), 70 (Central), or 970 (So Uk). The site is within walking distance of any bus line via Aberdeen.


6. Chai Wan Catholic Cemetery:  
Chai Wan Catholic Cemetery is in Chai Wan District, under the management of the Hong Kong Diocesan Board of Catholic Cemeteries. The only grave spaces available are for an initial term of ten years ($15,500).
The initial term of ten years can be extended for one further term of six years only. Only practising Catholics are permitted to be buried or deposited in the Catholic Cemetery. A burial permit must first be obtained.

Transportation: You can reach the site by taxi from the Chai Wan MTR station or by minibus no. 16M (to Stanley).


7. Happy Valley Catholic Cemetery (St. Michael's Catholic Cemetery):  
Happy Valley Catholic Cemetery is under the management of Hong Kong Diocesan Board of the Catholic Cemeteries. The only grave spaces available are for an initial term of ten years ($15,500).
Only practising Catholics may be buried or deposited in a Catholic cemetery. A burial permit must be first obtained.
For inquiries, call 2572 6078 (all spaces are sold).
Transportation: You can reach the site by taxi from Causeway Bay MTR station. The site is opposite Happy Valley Racecourse.


8. Cheung Sha Wan Catholic Cemetery (St. Raphael's Catholic Cemetery):  
Cheung Sha Wan Catholic Cemetery is under the management of Hong Kong Diocesan Board of the Catholic Cemeteries. The only grave spaces available are for an initial term of ten years ($15,500).
The initial term of ten years can be extended for one further term of six years only. Only practicing Catholics are permitted to be buried or deposited in a Catholic cemetery. A burial permit must first be obtained.

Transportation: You can reach the site by taxi from Lai Chi Kok MTR station. It is a 10-minute walk from Caritas Medical Centre.


9. Chinese Christian Cemetery (at Junction Road):  
Chinese Christian Cemetery is located in Kowloon Bay, managed by The Hong Kong Chinese Christian Churches Union. Each grave space is for a six-year term (members fee $5,500, non-members fee $10,000). The deceased must be a Christian and a burial permit must be obtained. Registration is required at the Chinese Christian Cemetery, 144 Junction Road.

Transportation: You can reach the site by 5-minute walk from Lok Fu MTR station or bus no. 1 (Tsim Sha Tsui), 11K (Hung Hum Station), 11D (Kwun Tung), 75, 85, 85A, or 85B (Kowloon City Ferry Pier), which operate along Junction Road.


10. Hong Kong Christian Churches Union Po Fu Lam Road Cemetery:  
Hong Kong Christian Churches Union Po Fu Lam Road Cemetery is located in Aberdeen District, managed by The Hong Kong Chinese Christian Churches Union. Each grave space is for six-year term (members fee $5,500, non-members fee $10,000). The deceased must be a Christian, and a burial permit must be obtained. Register at the Chinese Christian Cemetery, 144 Junction Road.

Transportation: You can reach the site by taxi from Sheung Wan MTR station. You can also take Citybus no. 7 (Central), 37A (Admiralty), 40 (Wan Chai), 71, 91, or 94 (Central). Take off at Queen Mary Hospital station and the site will be within walking distance.


11. Hong Kong Buddhist Cemetery:  
Hong Kong Buddhist Cemetery is located in Chai Wan district, managed by The Hong Kong Buddhist Association. Grave space is categorized as permanent ($280,000) or ten-year term ($28,000). The deceased must be a Buddhist. The identification card and member card of the deceased and a Burial Order are required to register at Wan Chai Buddhist Association.

12. Shenzhen Land Burial (at Dai Pang Bay):  
Shenzhen Land Burial is located in Shenzhen Xiao Mei Sha area and managed by a local company. Grave space is classified into: $25,000, $33,000, and $43,000. In addition, a $1,500 permanent management fee is required. Transportation for sending the casket to site costs about $12,000.
The identification card of the deceased is needed to register for a space, at 13/F, Hung Fat Commercial Building, 350 Lockhart Road, Wan Chai, Hong Kong.

* Documents and the Certificate of Registration of Death are not required for registration of grave space.
